Jonathan Downey Joins Exp101

Jonathan Downey

Since leaving his career as a corporate lawyer in 1999, Downey has become a highly influential voice in hospitality - opening over 20 bars, clubs, restaurants and a hotel in London, Ibiza, Chamonix and Melbourne. In 2015 he was named by Debrett’s/Sunday Times as one of the 20 most influential Brits in food and drink and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Spirited Awards in New Orleans.

In 2012 Downey brought his drinks expertise to Street Feast, a street food night market founded in east London. Downey has since organised several events and street food arenas under the Street Feast brand (including Model Market, Dinerama, Hawker House, Giant Robot and Public) all over London; taking derelict and disused spaces and filling them with food, booze, music and vibes.

LONDON UNION BIO

London Union was founded by Jonathan Downey and Henry Dimbleby in 2015. It is the parent company of Street Feast, which has been operating vibrant street food markets across the capital since 2012.

Street Feast transforms derelict and disused spaces into unique eating and drinking environments, all bringing great street food, brilliant booze and music-festival vibes to people around London. From car parks to old markets and rooftops to office blocks, Street Feast has taken over locations across the capital including Dalston, Lewisham, Canada Water, Battersea and Bermondsey. These have become London’s most successful street food markets, bringing communities together, creating employment and providing opportunities for new food entrepreneurs to establish themselves without requiring large amounts of capital. In 2017, Street Feast welcomed more than one million guests to its venues.

Over the next five years London Union will open several new iconic markets in London and across the UK.

JD will be in conversation with Kieron on the night time economy and the challenges that the city of London faces, on how the hospitality industry can face these challenges head on. It looks to be lively and JD will undoubtedly offer incredible insight .
